The West Branch Lady Warriors Soccer Team defeated Salem 3-1 and clinched their third straight Northeastern Buckeye Conference Championship. This is the first time in the school’s history that girls soccer has won 3 consecutive league titles. They will share the title with Louisville due to both teams having a record of 6-0-1 in the league after tying their match.
The match against Salem got off to a rocky start when 9 minutes in Salem’s Emma Minamyer capitalized on a penalty kick opportunity. Stepping up and putting the Warriors on the board off the bench was freshman Haley Jones assisted by sophomore Gillian Koneval. Gillian Koneval scored the Lady Warriors’ second goal with an assist by freshman Alexis Biery. Rounding out the 3-1 win for the Warriors was a whistle beater by Bailey Polinori in the last minute of the match assisted by Gillain Koneval to secure the 3-1 victory and 3-peat conference championship for the team. Senior Keeper Kendall Briceland had 6 saves in goal and defended the goal against 3 rapid fire attacks near the end of the match to help her team to victory.
The 2016 Lady Warriors are the first WB girls team to win 3 consecutive conference championships.
